Charming Portuguese region, Alentejo, in Portugal, is a great destination

The most extensive region of Portugal, the Alentejo has attractions to entertain the whole family during the holidays. Its beautiful beaches, historic monuments and natural landscapes make it the ideal destination for children and adults, especially during the European summer.

In the sunniest season of the year, there is nothing better than enjoying the river beaches scattered throughout the Alentejo. Alamal Beach in Gavião is perfect for cooling off with the small ones, mainly due to the quality of the water, accessibility, support equipment and green spaces in the surroundings. And leisure activities do not stop there: sport fishing, canoeing, hiking and cycling leave the whole family active.

Also try a fun safari at the Badoca Safari Park. There are zebras, giraffes, orixes, wildebeest and many other species to interact and learn. The park has an area dedicated to exotic birds, primates and a space for entertainment with trampoline and African rafting. Other excellent attractions to learn more about the environment are the Insectozoo, in Vila Ruiva; The Nature Park of Noudar, near Barrancos, and the Fluviário de Mora. The latter is dedicated to the freshwater ecosystem and has several national and international species from the Iberian Peninsula and the Amazon basin.

Culture is another aspect that can not be left out of the holidays, and in the Alentejo the options are varied. The (A) Brincar Museum, located in Arronches, has an immense collection of toys hidden in its castle. In Évora, a World Heritage City, the Évora Museum is a must visit, with specific programs dedicated to children. For those who prefer to gather the family for a more radical activity, the Kartódromo is fun guaranteed. If the heat is too intense, take a boat trip at the Marina da Amieira, in Alqueva’s Albufeira.

Another piece of Alentejo that is a success during the summer is its coastline. The tip is to visit the charming Vila Nova de Milfontes, where a tourist train makes a full journey through the historic center, ending at the beach. To recover the energies after an exciting day, savor delicious treats at the famous Café & Company Bread, full of homemade cakes, snacks and cookies that will leave that little taste of want more.

In the Alentejo, attractions appeal to all ages: they are diverse nature trails, bike rides, museums and imposing castles that provide truly unforgettable experiences.
