The must-see Peruvian cuisine

One of the main world destinations and synonymous with culture, nature and history, Peru also stands out when it comes to gastronomy.

Peruvian cuisine is world renowned for its unique and sophisticated seasoning that attracts more and more visitors year after year. It is no wonder that recently the country was awarded the sixth consecutive year as the “Best Culinary Destination of the World” at the World Travel Awards of 2017. In addition, Peru is also among the best restaurants in Latin America. Of the 50 restaurants that make up the list, 10 are in the country.

Size recognition can be thanks to the quality of the ingredients and raw materials, which are grown and harvested in the Peruvian lands themselves. Because of this, it is very common to find in the country – especially in its capital, Lima – diverse dining options specialized in traditional and local cuisine.

VEDA
The differentiated option for those looking for an alternative cuisine without losing the powerful Peruvian seasoning. Under chef Percy García, the restaurant located in the neighborhood of Miraflores offers an unsweetened gastronomy, gluten, dairy and any other food that comes from animal origin.

EL RINCÓN QUE NO CONOCES
If your preference is tradition, this restaurant is known as the icon of Afro-Peruvian cuisine.
Daily, it is possible to taste a great amount of the most different types of stews and more than 30 dishes of traditional Creole cuisine. Founded by chef Teresa Izquierdo and currently run by her daughter Elena, the restaurant also features an incredible selection of traditional desserts.

AMAZ
One of the most beloved restaurants in Latin America and a great reference in the Amazon cuisine. The Amazon, led by chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, has options of wild dishes such as cecina (a kind of dehydrated meat) and tacacho, made with banana.The drinks menu features an incredible selection of rare and unknown fruits, perfect to arouse the curiosity of those who taste them.

CENTRAL
Considered the icing on the cake of Peruvian cuisine, Central has been ranked as the second best restaurant in South America and the fifth best in the world. Its traditional cuisine uses ingredients from altitudes up to 3,500 meters from sea level. The stars of the menu are the scallops seasoned with spicy Peruvian rocoto, which are transformed into a crust with meringue texture. In addition, customers can request the accompaniment of a selection of Peruvian potatoes decorated with muña and chips of alpaca.

OSSO
The farthest option from Peruvian cuisine. However, considered the best place to eat meat in Latin America. The restaurant was initially founded as a butchery, and chef Renzo Garibaldi invited his friends to taste the most different cuts of meat after undergoing an aging process – some for up to 12 months – in which the enzymes decomposed and transmitted a different flavor the meat. Today, the place stands out as the best luxury grill in the country.
