Issuance of passports should return until today, according to Minister

After 24 days suspended for lack of resources, the manufacture and issuance of passports will be resumed starting tomorrow, according to a government pledge.

President Michel Temer sanctioned yesterday the bill that frees R $ 102.4 million for the Federal Police.

The proposal with the authorization of the resources had been approved by the Congress last week, but the sending to the Palace of the Plateau was delayed and it was not done until Tuesday.

“The money is already there,” said Justice Minister Torquato Jardim.

The money was withdrawn from the quota money passed by Brazil to the UN (United Nations).

PF did not calculate how many documents were no longer manufactured in the period. On average, 11,000 passports are produced in the country each working day – potentially giving a total of 198,000 disadvantaged people.

The service was discontinued on June 27, after, even alerted by the PF that the budget limit was at an end, the government kept the transfers blocked.

The problem occurs because the money from the passport issue fee –
R $ 257.25 – goes to a fund and, by decision of the Union, is divided to improve government accounts and various expenses of the FP, not just for the document.

The money passed on will now be sufficient to maintain the service until the end of the year.
