The Minister of Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation, Maurício Quintella, signed last Thursday (29/6) the compromise agreement between the Ministry and the Department of Transport of Pernambuco for the improvement of the infrastructure of the Airport of Serra Talhada, in the Municipality of the same name located in the Sertão de Pernambuco. Investments of R$ 20 million are foreseen.
The Term will enable the construction of the passenger terminal, the fire fighting section, the aircraft yard, taxiways, and complementary works that will allow the airport to operate scheduled flights. Of the total destined for the work, R$ 8 million is already guaranteed in this year’s budget. The funds will be released according to the fulfillment of the steps set forth in the work plan.
By the end of this year, the executive projects and the bidding must be completed by the State, responsible for the administration of the airport. The works are expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
For Quintella, the investment in the Serra Talhada aerodrome will improve the connection of flights with the capital, Recife (distant 413 kilometers) and Petrolina (351 kilometers), strategic cities of the State. Besides benefiting the region of Pajeú, important medical, educational and commercial center of Pernambuco. The region has more than 800 thousand inhabitants.
“This is the main objective of the Regional Aviation Program: to train airports to receive regular flights, attracting airlines’ interest in regional operations. The result is development and more investments for Brazilian cities, “said the minister.
In 2016, the state government invested R$ 6.2 million for the requalification of the runway, which allowed the aerodrome to receive turboprop type aircraft (model type ATR-2). This year, the National Secretariat of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transport made the donation of the fire fighting car in the amount of R$ 1.1 million.
