Wine Festival in the Czech Republic

If your face lights up every time someone mentions the word wine, your favorite time of year in the Czech Republic is the beginning of autumn. The time of the grape harvest represents the peak of the season for wine lovers. In wine-producing regions, often accompany this fun event to medieval festivals and markets. And as the Czech Republic has many wine regions, here are several examples where enjoy the Czech vintage.

1 – Harvest in Moravia

Probably Southern Moravia is the best-known wine region in the Czech Republic. And it still has its own caste with the name of the region of its birth, Palava, a special area in several aspects. Protected by UNESCO as having a unique ecosystem, it is protected by wine experts as a special place for growing grapes. One of its historical centers is the city of Mikulov, where vintage will be from September 8 to 10, 2017.

Recently Znojmo’s harvest has also become a popular cultural event, where the fun and youthful atmosphere of Southern Moravia fill the entire historic center of the city. Part of the vintage Znojmo, which will be held from 15-17 September 2017, will include, as every year, the actual parade, a series of concerts, family events, culinary experiences and of course, wine in every corner.

2 – Wine Celebrations in Prague

Western Bohemia is not far behind the Czech wine tradition. It has important primacy. As an example, the vineyards of Prague Castle, among the oldest in the world. Even here, the harvest is organized every year. The vintage of Prague Castle represents the peak of the season as the excellent wine, good food and joy feed the unique atmosphere of Prague Castle. This year, it will be held September 9-10, 2017.

In addition, the Prague wine tradition does not end here. Even one of its areas is called Vinohrady (vineyards). And it’s not by chance that the next vintage will take place here. Prague, specifically the Grébovka Park on 16 and 17 September 2017, is sure of fun and great views.

3 – Harvesting of Bohemia

The harvest also happens, every year in one of the most beautiful castles of the Czech Republic, the Castle of Karlštejn. But this year will be special because the spirit of Charles IV and his time will reign in the castle. This enlightened monarch founded the castle and the 700th anniversary of his birth is celebrated here. And its name can be offered from September 30 to October 10, 2017.

4 – What can not be missed?

Whatever the chosen vintage festival, one can not fail to taste the Czech specialty, served according to the Czech laws, only from September 1st to November 30th and made exclusively with Czech grapes.

Its name is “burčák”, a partially fermented grape that contains a perfect proportion of alcohol and sugar. But beware! The burčák is very seductive and after one glass, will come another and another…

5 – It will continue…

If you can not come to a vintage party, do not despair. In November there will be other wine-related events, such as the São Martinho festival, which starts on November 11. In addition to the aforementioned places, other cities like Cesky Krumlov or Kutná Hora also lead these feasts.
