Prague Castle in summer

The place where time stopped

The most important point of Prague Castle is the cathedral of St. Vito. As you enter the feeling of being in a place where time has stopped. Beautifully decorated interior by medieval masters is perfectly lit by sunlight, which enters through stained glass windows. One of the most appreciated windows is Alfons Mucha, one of the most important Czech modernist painters. Also part of the cathedral graves are the remains of important rulers and Czech saints. Here you can see the tomb of St. Wenceslas – the patron of the Czech Republic, St. John Nepomuk, but also the emperors Charles IV and Rudolf II. A must see is the mosaic of the Last Judgment, above the Golden Gate, and the ascent to the main tower, which offers one of the most beautiful views of Prague, the city of a hundred towers.

Fairy Tale Houses
The visit to Prague Castle would not be complete without visiting the Gold Street. This lovely little alley next to the wall, is adorably quaint with very colorful little houses. According to the legend they were inhabited by alchemists who worked for the emperor Rodolfo II, that wanted to discover the magic potion of the youth, as well as the Stone of the Sage. Do not miss the house number 22, where he lived and wrote Franz Kafka, one of the most famous writers in Prague.

Gothic baroque renaissance …
A walk through Prague Castle is like a review of the architecture manuals. In a few hours you can visit the Romanesque basilica of St George with its mystical interior, the Gothic Royal Palace, the wide baroque courtyards, the Renaissance palace of Queen Anna and the ultramodern greenhouse in the royal gardens. Finally, Prague Castle holds something for everyone. Just go and get lost in the history of one of the most significant monuments of the Czech Republic.

Titian and Barbie under one roof
True treasures are stored inside the Prague Castle. You can choose from a number of museums and exhibitions held here throughout the year. Do you want to see with your own eyes the works of great masters like Titian or Rubens? Then visit the Art Gallery of Prague Castle. If you go along with your children, do not forget to visit the Toy Museum. The visit to Prague Castle can culminate in one of its beautiful gardens, crossing the moat of the deer or going to the magical neighborhood of Nový Svet, near the Square of Loreto where, in colored houses, are studios of important artists Prague.
